0073 Wariacje fotograficzne – Polish Photobooks

This book, together with “Tematy fotograficzne” (Photographic Themes), which was published the same year, rounds off Hartwig’s artistic photography programme. The intensely processed, rasterised photographs and photomontages are a visual representation of Hartwig’s “personal theatre”. // ‘personal theatre’. The basis for the titular variations here are mainly figurative photos, nudes and theatrical shots.

The original version of the book was designed to be photographic and literary. However, at the printing stage, the censor removed the texts by Julia Hartwig which had been intended to accompany the photographs. The reason for the intervention was her involvement in opposition activities.
