Adam Lach, Stigma (2014)

The album contains documentary photographs taken between 2012 and 2014 in a Romany camp on the outskirts of the south-western city of Wrocław. It presents daily life, portraits and the material culture of the Romany community. The photos are supplemented by snippets of the subjects’ utterances, creating a kind of empathetic sociological record.
“Stigma” won the first prize in the Self-Published Book – Professional category of the International Photography Awards in 2014. That same year, it also received the Beata Pawlak Award, the first time that this literary prize went to a photography book.
