Polegli na polu chwały 1939-1945 (1970)

The album is dedicated to the memory of the Polish soldiers who fell in the Second World War. A topographic journey around the country, with a route marked out by the monuments raised by the communist authorities and military cemeteries established by them, the book is both a photographic atlas of social realistic and social modernist sculptures and monuments and a record of the politics of memory imposed via the regime’s propaganda at the time. The photos are the work of leading Polish photographers in the field of national travel and tourism.
The compilation was the work of the editorial team in collaboration with the Rada Ochrony Pomików Walki i Męczeństwa (Council for the Protection of Sites of Struggle and Martyrdom), the Wojskowy Instytut Historyczny (Military History Institute) and the Państwowe Przedsiębiorstwo Pracownie Sztuk Plastycznych (Fine Arts Studios State Enterprise).
