Adam Bujak, Misteria (1989)

The publication in book form of a series of photographs with the same title, which were shown during the first half of nineteen seventies at various institutions, including the Museum of Art in the central Polish city of Łódź, and caused something of a stir. The album is devoted to Roman Catholic and Orthodox religious rituals and festivals in Poland. Bujak used the convention of humanist photo journalism to tell a story of experiencing the eponymous Misteria (Mysteries).
The first book of photos from Bujak’s “Misteria” (Mysteries) series was brought out by a monastery publishing house, alvarianum, in 1974. An American edition was published in 1976. It was entitled “Journeys to Glory: A Celebration of the Human Spirit” and featured a text by Majorie B. Young.
