This is probably the first post-war album devoted to the Nazi Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. Published three years after the conflict came to an end, it contains black-and-white photographs presenting general views of the camp, the interiors of the prison barracks and the sites of slaughter as they were right after the liberation. There are close-ups of details, like the notes gouged into the walls by the prisoners, and shots of work in progress on the subsequent exhibition focused on the war crimes committed in the camp and commemorating the victims. In addition to Mucha’s photos, the book also features a fold-out, panoramic shot of the camp taken by Stanisław Kolowce. The album closes with reproductions of drawings by the prisoners and archival photos taken from a series taken by a member of the Sonderkommando.
Fotografie zamieszczone w albumie były publikowane również osobno w postaci pocztówek.
