Aneta Grzeszykowska, Negative Book (2013)

“Negative Book” is a selection of photos from an extensive series of the same title, where Grzeszykowska subjects the traditional, black-and-white, negative photography technique to experiment. She poses for shots taken in everyday situations, in interiors, in the company of her family and against landscapes. She prints the shots in negative, but they contain one recurrent, ‘positive’ element; the image of her body. These perverse, direct-to-camera performance art works required special make-up. Before taking the photos, Grzeszykowska painted her body black in order to achieve the explicit corporeal presence within the non-material space of the negatives.
The book was published to accompany Grzeszykowska’s “Death and the Maiden” exhibition at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw.
